Biography
Jan Jacob Hofmann (* 1966) received his diploma in architecture from the University of Applied Sciences in Frankfurt am Main in 1995. He then went on to study conceptual design and architecture at the Staedelschule - Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Frankfurt am Main and received his diploma from the Städelschule in 1997. He works as a composer, photographer and architect in Frankfurt. He has been working with sound composition and electronic music since 1986. Hofmann has been working on his spatial sound project "Sonic Architecture" since April 2000. This involves spatial electronic music and sound architecture. The first presentation of "Sonic Architecture" took place in June 2001 and has since been performed numerous times in Germany and abroad. In 2006, he was nominated for the German Sound Art Prize. For his work "Licht aus - Klang an!" he was awarded the Gold Award in the category "Space" by the German Designer Club. From 2006–22 he was a board member of the German Society for Electroacoustic Music – Deutsche gesellschaft für Elektroakustische Musik (DEGEM).
