Konrad Zuse. Inventor of the First Functional Computer

Tue, June 22, 2010

Lecture by Prof. Dr. Udo Kebschull (Heidelberg University)
on the occasion of Konrad Zuse’s 100th birthday

The computer pioneer, inventor, civil engineer, and artist Konrad Ernst Otto Zuse (1910–1995) developed and built the world’s first functional computer in 1941, the “Z3.” Professor Dr. Udo Kebschull (head of the working group Technische Informatik in der Physik at Kirchhoff Institute for Physics at Heidelberg University) will hold a talk at ZKM on Zuse’s influence and accomplishments.
On display at the ZKM | Media Museum is the world’s oldest still fully functional computer that has been kept true-to-the-original, the “Zuse Z22” (a permanent loan from the State of Baden-Württemberg, Fachhochschule Karlsruhe, Hochschule für Technik).
