ZKM_Gameplay (opening)

In the context of the Karlsruhe Science festival EFFEKTE the »World of Games« will be re-opened under the name »ZKM_Gameplay« at the 2nd floor of the ZKM⎥Media Museum. The newly designed exhibition on the theme and significance of the computer game purposes to unfold and sound out the multi-facetted layers of this medium with a critical gaze. 

Since its opening in 1997, numerous computer games have been presented in a permanent exhibition on the second floor of the ZKM⎥Media Museum, since these reflect an essential part of digitalized realities of life. For centuries new artistic, experimental, media-reflective as well as ‘serious’ forms of games have evolved. In the past decade alone, the cultural influence and economic power of the game has experienced enormous growth. Digital games also generate promises and equally vague fears.
