Contemporary Encounters with and between Artists and Experts from Europe and Russia
Video Program
From October 2016 till December 2017, the Bunkier Sztuki Gallery of Contemporary Art will host 3 editions of a thematic video-art program, dedicated to various topics related to the general theme of the project (war, trauma, memory, etc.). It will serve as a platform for exchange of experiences and invite the curators from partners’ institutions, as well artists or other scholars for presenting a lecture with a screening of video art.
Artist Residencies, Workshops and Exhibition
Taking the exhibition »Art in Europe 1945–1968« as a point of departure, the residencies in Cēsis (Latvia) and Biella (Italy) will create a platform which brings together artists from Eastern and Western Europe, including Russia, to tackle the theme the East-West relations by reflecting on several issues such as the image of the Other, shaping identity, the role of the artist, etc.
The workshops in Moscow and Krakow will respectively take place before and after the residencies. The first one will be the opportunity for the selected artists to discover the exhibition at the Pushkin Museum, and understand the scope of the project, while the second workshop will allow artists an exchange moment during their creation process.
The exhibition traveling from Riga to Krakow and Brussels aims at showcasing the artistic production and research projects developed by the contemporary artists and experts during the workshops and residencies.
