- »I'm Not The Girl Who Misses Much« is one of the earliest videos by Pipilotti Rist. It was created during her first year of studies. The fast cut, partly blurred, shaky and amateurish looking camera image shows Rist in a black dress with a deep décolleté and lips painted red. Rist dances and repeats the verse: “I’m not the girl who misses much.” After about three minutes, the first verse of the Beatles’ song »Happiness Is a Warm Gun« by John Lennon begins: “She’s not a girl who misses much... .” With this line Lennon described his partner, the artist Yoko Ono.
Pipilotti Rist emphasized in 2016 that the video was made at a time when television was still heavily dominated by state-run channels. She attributed the success of the video to the fact that viewers had the feeling that a member of the public was suddenly making a television show of their own. As a second important point she cited her interest in hysteria: “I tried to accept hysteria in myself and in others as a survival tactic. I wanted to be free to explode into pieces and not be ashamed of it. I wanted to explode into pieces of pleasure.“ [1]
