Pélerinages Weimar Art Festival
Biblioteca Insomnnia. The Digital Bauhaus II
Sun, August 27 – Sun, September 17, 2006
Successful co-operation with Weimar
After the great success of their co-operation last year, the ZKM | Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe, and the »Pèlerinages« Weimar Art Festival will co-operate again in 2006. The title of the presentation refers to the idea of the ZKM as a digital Bauhaus in which research, teaching, realization and presentation go hand in hand.
Subject: Insomnia
The theme of the works selected for exhibition is insomnia as a symptom of a constantly stressed society in which global economic, medial and cultural exchange has dissolved the traditional boundaries of space and time. The world of insomnia is marked by confusing transitions between waking and sleeping states in which the boundaries between dream and reality become fluid. Insomnia is not only a burden, but also a message: whoever thinks he is sleeping, is awake and does not know it; whoever thinks is insomniac, is awake and knows it. Using technical installations, the ZKM attempts to make theoretically accessible the realm of the irrational where, according to the Enlightenment, sleep and its changed states of consciousness are normally located. The exhibition includes works by Loys Egg, Marie-Jo Lafontaine, Onno Onnen, Ruth Schnell, Bill Viola, Peter Weibel, and Ingrid Wiener. Curators: Peter Weibel, Bernhard Serexhe
