Biography

Kirsten Johannsen utilizes video technologies to question basic concepts of perception and representation. Her works analyze metaphysical subjects and give a simplified and ironical presentation of combinations of image, film and sound elements to mark and question spatial and temporal dimensions. 

Education
1979-81 Studied Stage Set Design at the Akademie der bildenden Künste, Stuttgart
1981-82 Studied Stage Set Design at the Accademia delle Belle Arti, Florence
1982-86 Studied Visual Communication at the Hochschule der Künste (HdK, Master Student, Ramsbott's Class)

Teaching/other activities
since 1983 Produced decor and costumes for film and television productions, for the German TV channels RTL, WDR and ZDF amongst others.
1993 Teaching Appointment at the Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG), Karlsruhe
since 1996 Teaching Appointment in the Faculty of Visual Communication, Hochschule der Künste (HdK), Berlin
