Biography
Peter Gahn (*1970 in Münster, Germany) has been Professor of Composition/New Media/Sound Studies at the Nuremberg University of Music since 2015. He studied composition with Nicolaus A. Huber and Ludger Brümmer at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen and with Jo Kondo at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. Until 2005, he worked as a lecturer at Japanese universities. Since then, he has continued his compositional work in Germany. Gahn is the recipient of the Irino Prize (2005) and the first prize of the Stuttgart Composition Prize (2013). He was a guest artist at the ZKM | Karlsruhe (2005 – 06) and received residency fellowships at the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris (2009), the Seoul Art Space Geumcheon (2010), and the German Academy Rome, Casa Baldi (2016).
His compositions have been performed at the Darmstadt International Summer Courses for New Music, the ISCM World Music Days in Yokohama, MaerzMusik Berlin, Gaudeamus International Music Week, Ultraschall Festival Berlin, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, and Konzerthaus Berlin, among others. His works are performed by the Ensemble Phoenix Basel, Ensemble Nomad Tokyo, Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Insomnio Utrecht, ensemble courage, E-Mex Ensemble, Ensemble Musikfabrik, and the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra of the SWR, among others. Peter Gahn lives in Nuremberg and Seoul.
