Alex Michaan

Biography

Alexandre Michaan is a restorer of photography and multimedia works. He graduated from the Institut national du patrimoine (lnp) in 2014.

After studying art history at the Ecole du Louvre, he completed the photo-restoration course at l'Institut national du patrimoine (lnp) and, over the course of his five years of training, focused on the conservation challenges of contemporary artworks using new media and digital media in particular.

During an internship at the conservation laboratory of the LIMA Institute (formerly the Netherlands Media Art Institute) in the Netherlands, where he developed in particular a plan for the conservation and emulation of interactive works on CD-ROM, he was trained in techniques and procedures for the conservation of video works. For his diploma, he specialised in the conservation problems of digital video works with obsolete formats by conducting a case study for three DVD-formatted video works, together with the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and the Centre de Recherche et de Restauration des Musées de France (C2RMF).
