Biography
Victoria Halper is a director, video artist, and performer. She completed her studies in acting and directing at the University of Toronto. In 2010, she emigrated to Austria, and since 2016, she has been living and working in Vienna, exploring various forms of performing arts, including performative installation, theater, essay performance, contemporary circus, video art, digital art, VR, and film. In 2018, she received the Newcomer Scholarship for Performing Arts from the Austrian Federal Chancellery to create her autobiographical multimedia essay performance about the early death of her father who had immigrated to Canada (»Dad Left«). Since 2018, she has been collaborating closely with director Kai Krösche. With him under the name of the performance label DARUM, she was nominated for the NESTROY Theater Prize in 2019 and 2020 and was awarded it in 2023 with the performative Installation »Homesick«. Her debut experimental film, »Floating Flies« premiered at the Diagonale '23 (Graz) and celebrated its International Premiere at the prestigious Seattle International Film Festival. In 2023, she received a Scholarship from the City of Vienna to artistically explore audience engagement strategies in immersive theater, performative installations, and cross-media projects. The DARUM VR project, »[EOL]. End of Life« (premiering in September 2024), which was developed jointly with Kai Krösche during a residency at the Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, incorporates some of the insights from this artistic process.
