Biography

Active not only as a member of the museum’s technical staff, Christian Nainggolan has also long been involved as a musician and DJ. A trained bassist, he played in various soul and funk bands throughout the 1990s, even an easy-listening project was part of the mix. During this period, countless nights spent in clubs sparked his passion for electronic music. He sourced his essential vinyl records in his hometown Karlsruhe at the lovingly curated record store “Groovehandlung,” run by Rainer Buchmüller (also known as Fred and Luna), known for its excellent taste and dedication to music. When Buchmüller closed the shop in the late 1990s, Christian took over the store and, together with Kristian Beyer of Âme, opened the now-legendary “Plattentasche.” It quickly became a well-stocked record shop where DJs from all over came and went. During this time, Christian also performed under the name “DJ Lego,” playing at a wide range of clubs and parties. Between 2012 and 2015, Lego found success as one half of the project Yokto, contributing to three releases on Compost and Lossless Records—most notably the outstanding track “Two for Wood,” which gained strong support from numerous A-list DJs and became a fixture in clubs. More recently, Christian Nainggolan made his solo debut on the third installment of the compilation series “Future Sounds of Kraut” with his track “Nachtraucher.”
