Freiburg University of Music, Studio for Electronic Music

Biography

The Studio for Electronic Music is part of the Institute for New Music at the Freiburg University of Music. The studio’s primary goals are to educate students and teach them about electroacoustic concepts in musical and artistic practice, and to support all students at the University of Music in realizing performances with electroacoustic components, particularly in the context of contemporary music. In 2019, the Master’s program in Electronic Composition was launched. The focus of the work is on individual guidance tailored to the students’ personal needs. The resulting compositions can encompass a broad spectrum of art forms - from live electronics and acousmatics to sound installations, performances, kinetic art, and more. There is close cooperation with the instrumental and vocal classes and all departments of the university. In addition, there are numerous partners outside the university at the local, national, and international levels (including Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the National Music Academy of Kyiv, LMTA Vilnius, the Zaragoza Conservatory of Music, ARTS² Mons, and others) that, in addition to fostering artistic and aesthetic exploration, also open up a wide range of presentation opportunities for students. The Electronic Composition program is supervised by Alexander Grebtschenko with the support of Marie-Luise Calvero.
