Jan-Tage Kühling

Dr. Jan-Tage Kühling is a scholar of theatre and performance studies, cultural manager, director, and author. He is the founding director of the Goethe-Institut Armenia in Yerevan and serves as President of EUNIC Armenia, the network of European cultural institutes in Armenia. Before taking up his position in Armenia, he worked in various fields of international cultural exchange and the performing arts. From 2015 to 2017, he was a member of the leadership team at Centrum Amarant in Poznań, Poland. Between 2021 and 2023, he worked with the Performing Arts Program at LAFT Berlin. In 2022, he earned his Ph.D. from Freie Universität Berlin as a doctoral fellow of the Heinrich Böll Foundation. His research focuses on contemporary performance, political aesthetics, and Anthropocene studies. He is co-author of Ästhetiken des Engagements: Performative Perspektiven im Anthropozän (transcript, 2024) and Mourning the Ends: Collaborative Writing and Performance (punctum books, 2025). He is also the Program Director of Stellar Frequencies, which he co-curates with Varoujan Chetirian.
