Biography

Manfred Geier (*1943, Troppau, today Opava, CZ) lives and works in Hamburg. He studied German studies, political science, and philosophy in Frankfurt am Main and Marburg under Theodor W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer, among others. In 1973, he earned his doctorate with a dissertation on Noam Chomsky’s linguistic theory. From 1982–98, he was a professor of German language and literature at the University of Hannover. His work focuses on literary studies, cultural political analyses, and biographical portraits, particularly of philosophers. Among his numerous publications is a trilogy on the Enlightenment: Kants Welt (Kant’s World, 2003), Die Brüder Humboldt (The Humboldt Brothers, 2009), and Aufklärung: Das europäische Projekt (Enlightenment: The European Project, 2012). His most recent works are Nikola Tesla: Wechselströme des Geistes (Alternating Currents of the Mind, 2023) and Das reine Gold des Denkens (The Pure Gold of Thought, 2025), a collection of essays and lectures on Immanuel Kant’s intellectual revolution.
