Mariana Carvalho

Biography

Mariana Carvalho (São Paulo/Berlin) is a sound artist, musician, and performer working at the intersection of composition, improvisation, and performance. Her interests involve voice, text, internal listening, relation, materials, self-built instruments and prepared piano. Her work explores bodily interactions, technological mediation, and interdisciplinary research. She holds a Master's in Sound Studies (UdK Berlin) and a Bachelor's in piano from the University of São Paulo, where she was a member of the NuSom – Research Center on Sonology. Mariana has performed internationally, including at Deutschlandfunk Kultur (Cashmere Radio), Akademie der Künste, Kampnagel, Impulstanz Vienna, CASo Buenos Aires and the MOMA-Rio. She was a DAAD Postgraduate Studies scholarship recipient and has participated in artist residencies such as Q-O2 (Brussels) and AADK Spain. Collaboration is a big part of her work, most lately happening in the fields of performative arts, including with Meg Stuart/Damaged Goods, Bibi Dória and Bruno Brandolino.
