Biography

Sophie Charlotte Reißfelder is a German cinematographer, director, photographer, and media artist. She has been working as a freelancer in film and video since 2015. From 2016 to 2024, she studied media art with a focus on film and moving images at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, graduating with a diploma.

During the 2020–21 academic year, she furthered her training in cinematography at FAMU in Prague. As director of photography, she shaped the visual design of the festival entry “Chrysalis” (directed by Eydís Björnsdottir), which was nominated for the Icelandic Academy Award in the short film category in 2023. In 2023, she co-founded the media art initiative Lichtspielsauna e.V. with fellow students. She currently works as a Creative Director at reelistiq in Karlsruhe.

In her artistic practice, she prefers to work with analog photography and 16mm film. Thematically, she explores interpersonal moments, the body, and illness. In doing so, she deliberately moves between fictional, documentary, essayistic, and installation-based forms.
