Student Assistant at "Hertzlab"

At ZKM | Hertzlab, we are researching the future: How do we want to live in 100 years' time? What kind of connections will we have with each other when everything is mediated by technology? How can art serve the common good? How should we approach emerging and disruptive technologies? 

We are looking for a student assistant with a passion in technology and art to support our 12-person team in shaping artistic research at the ZKM, starting on December 1, 2025.

• Maintenance and care of our productions in the exhibition rooms (restarting scripts, rebooting servers, turning things on and off)
• Accompanying us to festivals and fairs where we present our productions
• Collaboration on specific artistic research projects (in the fields of programming, electrical engineering, VR/AR, artificial intelligence, depending on interests and skills)
• Event-related tasks (website maintenance, event support)  

• A maximum weekly work time of 20 hours (up to 40 hours per week possible during semester breaks).
• Flexible working hours with reliable scheduling
• A contract from December 2025 to September 2026 with the option to extend
• Employment and payment based on set hourly rates, taking knowledge and skills into account  

• Interest and basic knowledge of media, media art, sound art, and/or creative technology.      
• Currently enrolled in a university or higher education academy.        
• Working mainly on site at ZKM, remote work is possible depending on the type of task, living in Karlsruhe or the surrounding area.
• Desirable: Class B driver's license
• Proficient English skills are required, as English is the departmental language at ZKM | Hertzlab
• Proficient written and spoken German skills
• Desired qualifications include initial knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: Programming (C, Python), Microcontrollers (Arduino, Raspberry Pi), Basic electronics knowledge, 3D design and animation (Blender, Cinema 4D, etc.), AI applications (Stable Diffusion comfy UI and LORAs, sonic AI apps, fine-tuning), text design, audio and video design, spatial audio 

Interview invitations will be sent out on October 14, 2025.
Interviews will take place from October 16 to 17.
