Philippe Halsman
Biography
Philippe Halsman (1906, Riga, Russian Empire, now LV – 1979, New York City, US) lived and worked primarily in France and the United States. Halsman studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Dresden, DE, and the University of Paris, F. In 1940, the photographer, who was of Jewish descent, fled to the United States. In addition to magazine covers and his characteristic Jump Pictures, Halsman remains known to this day for his unique portraits of famous personalities such as Albert Einstein. Also, his long-standing friendship with Salvador Dalí proved to be very fruitful.
