The greatest festival of electronic music in Germany presents the current developments in this field. Highlight in this year is an exclusive concert by held by eighty-seven-year-old pioneer of electroacoustic music, Pierre Henry, such as the 10th edition of PIANO+ and the awarding of the Giga-Hertz Prize. The support and funding of electronic music, and giving new impulses through new acoustic and compositional possibilities is the declared goal of the ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics.
This year the Giga-Hertz Award for Electronic Music goes to musician, legendary producer (among others, of Talking Heads, U2, and Coldplay) and multi-media artist Brian Eno who will be present at the Award Ceremony on Saturday, November 29.
The Giga-Hertz Prize is named after world-famous physicist Heinrich Hertz (1857–1894); Hertz taught at the Karlsruhe Technical University (present-day Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) towards the end of the nineteenth century, where he discovered electromagnetic waves.
As festival within a festival, PIANO+ forms an integral part of IMATRONIC and presents current compositional approaches in which the piano is augmented or applied in unusual ways.
In addition tot he performanc of prize winning works by this year’s winners of the Giga-Hertz Prize, the results oft he last year’s Production Awards may also bee heard and seen. The award ceremony oft he Giga-Hertz Prize takes place on November 29, 2014.
