Biography
Maria Smigielska is an architect and researcher based in Zurich with diverse experience in academia and practice for architecture and design. She gained professional architectural experience in Poznan, Warsaw and finally Zurich. Smigielska’s interest lies in the enhancement of potentials for digital and physical creation of architectural elements, design objects, artistic installations and interactive systems by encoding and modulating materials properties, utilizing alternative fabrication methods and novel design strategies.
From 2016 she has worked with multiple academic institutions in France, Austria, and Switzerland for research and teaching and currently she is a senior researcher at the chair of Digital Building Technologies at ETH Zurich and the Institute Contemporary Design Practices at FHNW Academy of Art and Design Basel. Maria holds a MSc degree in Architecture from TU Poznan and a MAS in Architecture and Information, ETH Zurich. Her work has been published and exhibited throughout Europe since 2013.
