Sport is a facilitator for education. Today we focus on Physical Literacy, in 1919, when Wilhelm Paulcke at the Technical University of Karlsruhe met the students' demand for compulsory sport, the roots of current health-conscious thinking are already recognizable. A lecture by Prof. Dr. Swantje Scharenberg & Prof. Dr. Alexander Woll as part of the exhibition »200 Years of KIT | 100 Objects«.

Creating space for movement - here again, KIT was and is exemplary, as illustrated by the university stadium (start of construction in 1924) and the »Centre for E-Sports and Digitalization in Sports«.  It is not only in the past 50 years of sports and sports science at KIT that a lively university sport and very good cross-faculty scientific cooperation has developed. The Sports Institute combines applied multifaceted research with education and training as well as knowledge transfer - yesterday, today and tomorrow. The lecture provides an overview of the history of sport at KIT from the gymnastics club in 1833 to today's sports science research.

Prof. Dr. Swantje Scharenberg is a sports historian and head of the Research Center for School Sports and Sports for Children and Young People (FoSS) at KIT. Prof. Dr. Alexander Woll is a sports scientist and head of the Institute of Sports and Sports Science at KIT.
