The work series »Ritus der Identität« [Ritual of Identity] uses a mirror to demonstrate that the perception of reality and representation, of object and image, always depends on perspective and the reference system. In the first version the real and the mirrored line are united to form a seemingly single symbolic line. In the second version a real line parallel to the mirror is given a second virtual line by the reflection and thus becomes an identity sign, the mathematical symbol indicating equality. In the third version, however, the real and the mirrored line remain separated by their distance and retain their difference. From a single object, a line, three different mean- ings and representations emerge. Identities are constructed with a variable frame of reference (the mirror).
