- Description
- The sculpture "Samson" aims to capture the situation of man shaped by the media: Man, blinded by the audio-visual media. They have interposed themselves between him and the environment, preventing direct perception and experience. The image of the world that is thus created in his head is an artificial, alienated one that can be manipulated at will. It can be reproduced millions of times and reaches people in the same second. With "Samson", Hans-Jürgen and Helga Lannoch have tried to depict this situation in the interpenetrations of skull, headphone and camera forms. There is no longer a face, since the sense organs only have mediated contact with the environment. The clip-on shoe points to the millionfold identical, interchangeable contents of the skull. - One could regard "Samson" as the fossil skull of the media man.
