GLOBALE: Online Journalism and the 4th Power

Storytelling, news-games, data-journalism, non-linear television or gapping all point to new means of processing knowledge, to trans medial formats and innovative production possibilities, but also to a demand by recipients to acquire knowledge freely and rapidly. Against the background of current tendencies in globalization and digitalization, the ZKM enquires into the future trends in the mediation of knowledge. What means will we have for tapping into knowledge over the next ten years? What is the current relationship between print and online media; which stories are narrated and by what means? How will the profile of online journalists develop and, finally, who pays for journalism and what forms might innovative payment take?
As part of the project »GLOBALE. The New Art Event in the Digital Age«, which formulates the increasing interlacing of previously separate disciplines and, alongside new methods and procedures, points to new forms of accumulating and distributing, the symposium directs its focus at current trends: Brief presentations of journalists, who have characterised the media change for years, about formats such as »CrowdStory«, »Follow the Money«, »deepr journalism/ untold.st« and »CORRECT!V« and on themes such as news as games or data journalism provide a forecast of the trends and development of the next 10 years. The symposium is being streamed live.
The symposium will be held in German language and is moderated by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schweiger, Head of the Department »Communication Science particular interactive Online and Media Communication« at the University of Hohenheim.
