»Black Matters« is the first full solo exhibition of Italian-American artist, Aldo Tambellini, who is one of the pioneers of intermedia art and experimental avant-garde of the 1960s and 1970s.
The exhibition »Black Matters« takes a journey through Tambellini’s most prolific, highly charged and diversified period (1960–1980). The exhibition explores his, paintings, and multimedia practice that includes: Lumagram (hand-painted slides), video, videogram, painting, photography, installation and film works. They present a selection of his most recent multimedia works that have been shown at Centre Pompidou (2012), Tate Modern (2012), MoMA New York (2013), 56. Biennale di Venezia (2015).
At the end of the journey through the development of Tambellini’s artistic life will be a site specific installation commissioned for the occasion of this retrospective at ZKM. The new multimedia installation, once again after sixty years, will present his artistic creativity and actual politics and philosophical underpinning that »Black Matters«.
