Everyone lives somewhere and somehow. But it's the where and the how that counts. Under the title »Building, Living, Housing«, the conference of the Karlsruhe Forum takes an interdisciplinary look at this current topic.

It is about affordable housing in the city and now also in rural areas, about new housing in neighbourhoods where social cohesion and the necessary infrastructure are important planning parameters. Ecologically sustainable construction and renovation are also taken into account, all under the premise of meeting the climate targets. Moreover, building and housing are never just private matters, but a Herculean political task – and both have a constitutional background.

The Karlsruhe Forum conference brings the aspects of building, housing and living together in a trialogue. In addition to the right to housing, the social aspects of housing and thus socio-political responsibility, demands from the private and private sector will also be negotiated.

What has been planned or implemented in terms of urban development and ecology, what course has been set, what signposts and trends are already visible and have passed their first tests?

There will be answers to these questions before you get involved in the unfamiliar, the unusual, the uncanny, in philosophical reflections on living and being, possible future forms of living will be presented and living in other cultural circles will be reflected upon. However, we are not only at home within our four walls, but also want to make our lives as individual, contemporary and protected as possible, while at the same time opening the door to digitalisation.

How much of what we are used to will be retained? Will we build and live differently in the future? Will we redefine housing and life? And how do the state, the municipalities, the energy and construction industries, and the trades meet the great challenge of being able to provide sufficient, affordable and decent living space - including ancillary costs?

Whether it is castles in the air, dream houses or having a roof over one's head, being annoyed by rising rents and heating costs, or thinking around the corner when it comes to historic preservation and new technologies - you will find stones of contention and networks that can be spun from the familiar to the new.

The entire event will be recorded and subsequently accessible on YouTube and at www.karlsruher-forum.de.
