Olafur Eliasson: Your Spiral View, 2002
A Presentation from the Boros Collection
Wed, October 15, 2008 – Sun, January 25, 2009
After the outstanding success of his first large overview exhibition »Surroundings Surrounded« at the ZKM | Karlsruhe, in 2001, and the subsequent, sensational exhibition »The Weather Project« held at the London Tate Modern, in 2003, which drew in two million visitors, Olafur Eliasson now returns once again to the ZKM | Media Museum with his large-format mirror object »Your Spiral View«, starting 15th of October.
This monumental steel structure from 2002 is equipped with a multitude of spiral-formed mirrors within its tunnel-like entrance passageway, and through which visitors can pass in both directions. Much in the same way as the light which penetrates through the openings refracts as if within a huge kaleidoscope, so is the viewer, moved by the light reflections, overcome in his inner view by the multitude of refractions of his own mirror image. Always stepping the fine line between nature and technology, Eliasson's works encourage reflections on self-observation. In the magic looking glass of nature and self-observation, the visitors are able to advance into the border zone between knowledge and perception.
