MARS! – Mobilizing Awareness for Resilient Societies

What if we didn’t leave the settlement of Mars to the super-rich, but approached it as a communal, democratic project? What would we do if we could start over from scratch?

The film shows the three phases of the project MARS! – Mobilizing Awareness for Resilient Societies: 

Prototypes: Workshops with scientists and citizen scientists on habitat, mental health, food, governance and resource management. 

Concept exhibition (June 6 – September 13, 2026): Results of the prototypes, an open platform for testing, commenting and contributing ideas. 

MARS!platz (October 15–27, 2026): Karlsruhe’s market square became the stage for a long-running performance. Inside a white dome, the Karlstronauts lived under simulated Mars conditions: with cold, scarce water, grasshoppers and a robot dog.
