Description
Digital disinformation and AI-generated content are transforming the way we perceive and evaluate information. In cooperation with HKA – Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences and supported by the ZKM as an educational partner, the symposium “The Fabrication of Truth” provides a platform to highlight current challenges and explore new perspectives.
The symposium is part of the project “Reality Check: Fake or Fact in the Age of Generative AI”, initiated by HKA’s Institute for Intelligent Interaction and Immersive Experience and funded by the Carl Zeiss Foundation. Its aim is to raise awareness—especially among young people—of the challenges posed by fake news, deepfakes, and digital manipulation.
Nude photos of a classmate appear on someone’s phone! A student is being bullied in the class chat! Images featuring swastikas are circulating through the school! A 12-year-old is being blackmailed on Roblox! A teacher is being insulted in memes! All of this happens every day in German schools—even though teachers and parents are often unaware of most of it.
But how should one respond when hearing about such an incident? What is the legal situation? Who needs to be informed? And how can the affected students be supported? We are often overwhelmed by these questions.
In this impulse lecture, you will learn about different forms of (sexual) boundary violations in digital spaces and gain insight into the background of the podcast “SchoolCrime – When the Smartphone Becomes a Weapon.”
