The arcade cabinet »Asteroids« was developed in 1979 by Lyle Rains and Ed Logg for the American company Atari.

Atari sold worldwide over 70.000 of these machines. The game was ported to almost every personal and home computers and consoles of this time. The goal is to navigate through asteroid fields. The players have to avoid contact with the asteroids and destroy the asteroids and hostile spaceships.

The vector monitor creates a very unique visual aesthetic. A cathode ray »draws« like a pen the glowing elements directly on the fluorescing surface of the display.
