»Light Signs« are modified advertising signs, which the artist transforms into light installations with potentially infinite, slowly merging color grades. In contrast to the commercial advertising signs usually found in public spaces with their interchangeable advertising messages, garish colors, and flashing lights, Betty Rieckmann's atmospherically luminous »Light Signs« produce a multitude of visual effects. The signs enter into a reciprocal relationship with the people who look at them and can have different effects depending on their personal view, mood, or disposition: from calming to stimulating or even balancing. In her works, which are carefully changing through the use of the latest LED technologies, the artist explores the perceptive psychological effect of color and light on people, thus creating light paintings that are in a state of constant transformation.

»Light Signs« was funded within the framework of the project support program for media art of the »UNESCO City of Media Arts« Karlsruhe 2020.
