Biography
Christoph Blase studied communication science, politics and sociology at the LMU in Munich in the 1970s and graduated from the 17th Lehrredaktion of the German School of Journalism. He worked for decades as a freelance art critic, among others for the art magazines art, artis and Wolkenkratzer, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the Kunst-Bulletin from Switzerland. Until 2003 he ran the art criticism site blitzreview. Afterwards, he established the Laboratory for Antiquated Video Systems at the ZKM | Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, which he directed until 2010, and curated exhibitions on video art from the 1960s to the 1980s.
