Biography

Ralf Eger (a.k.a. Paul Esperanza) joined ZKM in September 2020 to work on the interdisciplinary collaboration between art and science in the AI-based research project »intelligent.museum« at ZKM | Hertzlab. Since 2024 he is responsible for strategic development.

Ralf Eger holds a degree in music theater directing and a PhD in electrical engineering and information technology. He is a theater director, curator for arts education, and choral conductor. As a specialist for spoken dialog in opera and operetta, especially for radio broadcast, he regularly works with the Munich Radio Orchestra. Numerous Operetta and Opera have been published on CD. Notable productions include the rediscovery of works like Humperdinck’s »Dornröschen« or Joseph Beer’s »Polnische Hochzeit«. Both works have been recorded for the first time ever.

Arts education is an important field of activity for Ralf Eger. He participated in the »Cultural Agent for creative Schools«”. Since 2011, he has been curating art projects, advising schools and artists on the implementation of art projects in schools, and facilitating collaborations.

At ZKM he continues this work by giving workshops on AI. His goal is to demystify AI technology through art and make it more accessible to the general public.

As a choir director he worked for several years with various pop and jazz ensembles. In Karlsruhe he founded the vocal pop ensemble »Tohuwabohu-Fatale« that is known for its spontaneous street concerts and flashmobs.
