ARD Radio Play Days 2012

A Festival for the Radio Play

Wed, November 07 – Sun, November 11, 2012

News from the world of story-telling: from 7 to 11 November, the ZKM | Karlsruhe is once again host to the ARD Radio Play Days. Each year the event enjoys great popularity, among both older and younger audiences.

In the live radio play “Orphée Mécanique” by Felix Kubin, for example, the author’s entirely unique perspective on antique mythology is revealed. The radio play recounts the history of the singer Orpheus and the attempt to rescue his lover Euridice from the underworld: an exciting venture.

The festival highlight is the “ARD German Radio Play Award”, to which the Association of Public Broadcasting Companies and Deutschlandradio submitted several of their current radio play productions. An independent jury of experts selects a winner from among the best competition pieces, which will then be presented at the close of the event. After the presentation, the public is given the opportunity to ask questions about the work on-site, and to discuss it with the producers and the jury. Furthermore, additional awards will be given in the categories “Network Victor” [Netz-Sieger], “ARD Online Award”, “German Children’s Radio Plays” and “Children’s Radio Play Prize of the City of Karlsruhe”. Anja Höfer and Walter Filz will be the guides throughout the evening. This event can be seen online on 10 November from 9 p.m. on ARD live-stream.

In addition, this year the German finale in the “Science Slam 2012” will be taking place in which young researchers will make their appearance in a battle against each other for knowledge on certain special themes. Whoever wins over the public, will be honored with the title “Master of Slam”. The event will be musically accompanied by the modern jazz quartet SPANIOL4.

The accompanying program of the ARD Radio Play Days also provides numerous concerts, guided tours, workshops and lectures. For young audiences, the Children’s Radio Play Day offers new adventures on Sunday, 11 November, and carries off the audience with the live radio play “The Treasure of Silver Lake” to the Wild West, into Karl Mays well-known world of fiction.
