Under the Black Flag: About the significance of the polar ice caps for climate change

André Butz is a professor at the Institute of Environmental Physics and Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy at Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg, where he conducts research into the atmosphere and climate on Earth with a particular focus on the biochemical cycles of the greenhouse gases carbon dioxide and methane. In his lecture as part of the »BLACK FLAGS« exhibition, which features an installation by Spanish performance and installation artist Santiago Sierra documenting the raising of a black flag at the Earth's North and South Poles, he will be looking at the greenhouse gases carbon dioxide and methane, which are driving the climate change that is becoming particularly evident at the polar ice caps through ever-increasing emissions.
