With »Agentic Constellations«, the ZKM presents a media installation developed by Daniel Heiss and Marc Schütze at the EnBW Group headquarters in Karlsruhe. The installation explores what happens when autonomous AI agents begin to explore data on the Internet independently, develop hypotheses about hidden connections, and translate these into analytical visualizations that evolve continuously.

In the installation, several AI agents—programs that perform tasks largely autonomously—search the Internet for freely available data related to EnBW, analyze it, and relate the findings to one another. These connections are then displayed on a large LED wall as dynamic infographics, diagrams, networks, and cartographic visualizations. The visualizations are not determined in advance: each time a new piece of information becomes available, connections are reevaluated, hypotheses are adjusted, and constellations are continuously enhanced.

The installation revolves around the question of what forms of knowledge emerge when AI agents examine large amounts of heterogeneous information and establish connections among these pieces of information. Do machines perceive things that humans overlook—and how does this perspective alter our understanding of the world? For here the system of AI agents does not function solely as a tool for processing and presenting data, it is an active participant in an open process of discovery in which the boundaries between human and machine authorship are shifted. The installation leaves it up to the viewer to decide which perspective appears more insightful: the human perspective, with its individual biases, or the AI’s perspective, which is determined by its data and models.

With »Agentic Constellations«, Daniel Heiss and Marc Schütze continue their artistic exploration of autonomous AI systems. This work investigates these systems’ potential for independently navigating complex data spaces and revealing new perspectives on hidden connections. The premiere of this installation took place in the spring of 2026 at the ZKM where it was shown in the exhibition »THE SCREEN: Three Positions on AI and Art«. Subsequently, »Agentic Constellations«underwent further technical development and its content was adapted for its presentation at EnBW. The ZKM and EnBW are linked by a long-standing collaboration of sponsorship and partnership.
