Art Needs Company
Founded in Karlsruhe in 1988, the Fördergesellschaft ZKM / HfG e.V. [Support Association ZKM / HfG e.V.] is an association of citizens and public personalities. In Karlsruhe, it supports the ZKM | Center for Art and Media and the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG) with ideas and material resources.
What We Support
Masterclass at the ZKM
In a joint effort with the Fördergesellschaft ZKM / HfG e.V. and supported by the Gunther-Schroff-Stiftung, the ZKM's Museum Communication initiated the pupil scholarship system »Masterclass at the ZKM« in 2014. The project enables young people aged 15 to 19 to learn about contemporary art movements as well as the ZKM's program.

Restoring and Acquiring Artworks
The media artworks in the ZKM collection have to be restored regularly. The Support Association aids these efforts financially. In addition, it partakes in the acquisition of pioneering works at the intersection of art and technology.
The scholarship awards of the Fördergesellschaft ZKM / HfG
Since 1998, the Fördergesellschaft has been supporting students of the Hochschule für Gestaltung with an annual award ceremony for outstanding semester, master's or diploma theses in the subjects of product design, media art, photography, scenography and communication design, as well as art science with attractive prizes financed by the Fördergesellschaft and numerous scholarship donors, such as the Gunther Schroff Foundation, the Heinrich Hertz Society, the City of Karlsruhe, the Badische Beamtenbank and, time and again, private donors. In addition to recognizing their achievements, they enable the students to continue their projects and initiate new ones.

About the jury members
Chaired by art scholar Dr. Marlene Angermeyer-Deubner, a jury of local and foreign scholars, artists and museum directors selects the works. In 2020/2021, it was Prof. Dr. Georg Vrachliotis, professor of architectural theory at KIT, Philipp Ziegler, curator of ZKM, Margit Rosen, curator of ZKM, Andreas Beitin, director of Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, and Anja Casser, director of Badischer Kunstverein, who selected the works nominated by the professors of the individual departments.

Natural persons and legal entities can become members of the Society. The annual subscription for natural persons is a minimum of € 40. For legal entities, the minimum annual subscription is € 400. The Society is a recognized non-profit organization.
