The multimedia project Kraftwerk was founded by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider in 1970 in the context of the experimental art scene in Düsseldorf. The group founded the electronic Kling-Klang studio, in which all Kraftwerk albums were conceived and produced. Kraftwerk is considered as pioneer of electronic music and the forefather of highly diverse musical influences and movements, such as Electro, Techno, Hip Hop and Synthie Pop. The group has written music history and been celebrating worldwide acclaim in a career spanning over four decades. Ralf Hütter and his former partner Florian Schneider received the Grammy Award for their life’s work in 2014.
Kraftwerk began working with cutting-edge technological developments back in the early 1970s, thereby both anticipating and decisively influencing our digital computer world. From the outset of their career they have taken up and dealt with central questions relating to the age of information: the interaction of man and machine. Since the international concert tours at the beginning of the twenty-first century they have come full circle, and in the context of contemporary art, Kraftwerk’s multimedia performances are now perceived as unique forms of artistic performance. With 3D video projections specially developed for their performances, Kraftwerk’s concerts comprise a Gesamtkunstwerk of image and sound.
