Several men in costumes read texts on a stage
ARD Radio Play Days 2018

A musical fairy tale after Hans Christian Andersen with Lars Reichow and the SWR Vokalensemble. Singing along desired!

The emperor loves nothing as much as beautiful clothes. In return, he takes the last penny out of his people's pockets in order to have money for ever new, ever more magnificent clothes. If smartphones had been invented back then, the emperor would have posted his status on Instagram all day long. One day, however, two scammers turn up and mercilessly expose him.

Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale about appearances and being is still highly topical. The Latvian composer Uģis Prauliņš has transformed it into sound on behalf of the SWR vocal ensemble. He has written solo parts for five singers: Emperor, two swindlers, general and minister. These five soloists are extremely enthusiastic about playing and make contact with the narrator: the cabaret artist Lars Reichow. The musical fireworks will be accompanied by sparks that are also verbally fast-paced. By the way: From the beginning of the concert, the choir will practice the songs with everyone who wants to. Among them the fashion classic: »Green, green, green are all my clothes«.

Performances at 12:30 pm and 16:15 pm.
