Description
The series »Sonic Experiments« is dedicated to current developments within the various varieties of experimental electronic music. The program presents upcoming musicians and sound artists who either have a special sense for new, forward-looking impulses, or pursue particularly innovative compositional approaches. The aim of the series is to invite the audience to expect the unexpected.
Maximilian Pellizzari:
The multimedia performance Scrolling Years 1789-2024 extends the experience of digital space into a physical, visual and musical dimension, exploring the perception of history through images accessed online. The video projection was created using the photographic technique known as “photofinishing”, which produces image results from the chronological search of several years from 1789 to 2024 in an online search engine while scrolling through them. With this technique, traditionally used to determine the order of finish in running competitions, the images appear repeated and overlaid and are only partially visible. The body movements recorded by LiDAR sensors are used to modulate the image display and electronic effects, creating a simultaneity of movement, sound and image. The music is based on baroque compositional techniques and is enriched with electronic effects to capture the movement acoustically and spatially. At a certain point, an AI trained on the basis of recorded body movements anticipates the artist's actions and takes control of the movement of the visuals and the modulation of the sound.
