Students of the regional school Rülzheim (Rhineland-Palatinate) and ZKM⎥Institute for Music and Acoustics engage in a daring experiment on the topic of “violent language.” Under the direction of media teacher Steffen Griesinger (medien+bildung.com) the students present a sound installation with the working and project title “Druckwerk Orange,” in which the effects of everyday expressions of violent language are brought to the consciousness of listeners, and a discussion can ensue. The students make use of the unique, spatial sound technology at the ZKM_Klangdom. Through the more than forty elliptically arranged loudspeakers, the “virtual masses” and the dynamics of social communication are acoustically simulated and staged as an aesthetic sound experience. At the workshop presentation, the sound installation worked out by the students will be presented to the public. Additionally, space is provided to reflect on the experience together with the young creators to discuss the topic of “violent language” and the use of new media in education with invited experts.
