Biography
Hiromi Ishii was born in Tokyo and studied composition there. She was a research fellow at Musashino Musical College. She worked as a composer and sound designer for exhibitions and taught at academic institutes. From 1998 she studied electroacoustic composition with Wilfried Jentzsch at the Dresden University of Music, then with Simon Emmerson and Denis Smalley at City University London, where she also completed her doctorate. Her works have been performed at various festivals worldwide, including the Free State of Saxony (world premiere at the Semperoper), Gaudeamus, Art e Scienza, ICMC, and broadcast by WDR, MDR, etc. Since 2006, she has been invited several times as a guest composer at ZKM | Karlsruhe. Her most recent works focus on 3D acousmatic and visual music, for which she creates both parts in parallel. Two CDs with works by her have been released by WERGO.
