Biography

Andreas Kohlbecker studied biology at the University of Karlsruhe and "Wirtschafts- und Wissenschaftsfilm" in the "Film und Medien" project course at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg.

From 1995 to 1997, while still a student, he helped to set up Zeitwerk GmbH in Karlsruhe as a programmer, screen designer and system administrator. After completing his studies in biology, he worked from 1999 to 2001 as a research assistant in the “Scientific Databases and Visualization” working group at the European Media Laboratory, Heidelberg, and was involved in various media art projects during this time and afterwards. In 2004, he became a research assistant at the University of Bayreuth and worked in this position in software development at the Biologischen Bundesanstalt für Land- und Forstwirtschaft in Berlin.
Subsequently, from 2007 to 2022, he was a research associate in the Biodiversity Informatics working group at the Botanic Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem, Freie Universität Berlin, where he worked in various projects at national and European level as system architect, developer or head of IT development.

He has also worked as a freelance software developer, IT consultant and designer since the late 1990s.

Since 2022, he has been Digital Manager at the ZKM for the Knowledge - Collection, Archive & Research department.
