Biography
Johan Grimonprez (*1962, Roeselare, BE) lives and works in Brussels, BE, and New York, US, amongst other places. After studying at the Koninklijke Academie vor Schone Kunsten in Ghent, BE, he completed a Master of Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 1992. He was a recipient of the Whitney Museum’s Independent Study Program. Inhabiting the interstices of cinema, art and critical practice. Grimonprez’s oeuvre blurs the boundaries between documentary and fiction, between other and self. He weaves global and personal stories to reveal the hidden forces that shape collective memory and political imagination.
