Biography

He was a musician, conductor, dramaturge and teacher in Karlsruhe. Reichert studied music, musicology, French and philosophy in Karlsruhe and Freiburg. In 1967 he joined the music department of Südwestfunk Baden-Baden as a radio editor.

In 1973 he founded Ensemble 13, a loose group of outstanding and experimental musicians. 1986/87 Head of the first project group of the ZKM. Since November 1995 Professor of New Music at the Hochschule für Musik Rheinland-Pfalz. From 1981 to 2007 he was artistic director of the festivals »Wintermusik« and »Musik auf dem 49.«.

In 1981 Manfred Reichert had presented a concept paper for a so-called »Music Center Karlsruhe«. The facility was to serve Ensemble 13 as a venue for rehearsals and events. Thanks to the dedicated work of Manfred Reichert, the culture of contemporary music became a focal point of the city's support. Manfred Reichert finally led the first project group of the ZKM, which prepared its foundation.
