Block by Block

»Block by Bock« is a non-profit project that was launched in 2012 by UN-Habitat, the United Nations program for human settlements and sustainable urban development.
It uses the popular video game »Minecraft« as a tool to involve local communities worldwide in urban planning processes in order to create a more liveable and sustainable urban environment. With more than 100 projects worldwide and around 30,000 participants, »Block by Block« is one of the most widely used game applications for real-world construction projects.
The exhibition »Playful Architectures« takes the project »Building Peace In Kosovo« as an example. The city of Pristina, Kosovo was one of the first locations selected by UN-Habitat to apply the »Block by Block« methodology in Europe. 70 citizens of Pristina took part in the redesign of the former Sunny Hill marketplace in September 2015. Gardens, comfortable rest areas, a playground and Kosovo's first skate park were among the created facilities.
