Sixty years after the signing of the Treaty of Rome, Vice-President of the European Parliament Rainer Wieland, Parliamentary Manager of the CDU/CSU group in the European Parliament, Daniel Caspary, and the State Representative of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Dr. Stefan Hofmann, discuss the European future together with the audience as a mission for organization.

Trust was the common basis as France, Luxembourg, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany signed the Treaty of Rome on March 25, 1957 and thereby laid the foundation for the present-day European Union. Today Germany is an economically, socially and culturally strong country in the center of Europe. The number of people employed is at a record level, the budget is balanced, and investments in education and research are higher than ever. We live in a wealthy country with one of the most efficient social systems worldwide.

But at the latest, the »Brexit« shows that the enthusiasm for Europe is getting cracks. Today we are also intertwined in complex and profound crises which lastingly shake accustomed orders in Europe and the world. The rapid succession and simultaneity of major organizational tasks has become a hallmark of our time.

That is why parts of society see the future with scepticism and concern, while others know how to exploit these uncertainties. The conditions for dealing successfully with the various challenges and for the design of change processes are good. Irrespective of this, the desire for orientation in Germany and Europe is obvious.

How the idea of a reliable, stable and courageous republic of innovations can be promoted in Germany and in Europe without ignoring the fears of people shall be discussed in the course of the event.
