On Friday August 4, 2017 at 5 pm, the stars of the international architecture scene are invited to ZKM: Patrik Schumacher and Helmut Kinzler from the studio of Zaha Hadid, winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize 2004, American architect Greg Lynn (winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture in 2008), as well as the Bremen-based artist collective URBANSCREEN, specializing in site-specific multimedia installations in public spaces.

This award-winning group of architects will expertly intertwine digital projections with analog art for the Schlosslichtspiele 2017, where light will bring Karlsruhe castle to life from August 3 to September 10, 2017 and here at this symposium they will provide an insight into their latest architecture projects. They work with digital methods of design which have long since been used in the field of architecture. Moreover, the artist collective and creative company URBANSCREEN will be provide an insight into their works. The artist collective develops site-specific media installations for public spaces, including architectural projections, augmented sculptures, media façade concepts and virtual theater. With their so-called »Lumentektur« the group follows a unique approach to site-specific 3D-video mapping on architecture.

Construction has also been revolutionized by this era of digital transformation: design and its realization, once two very separate fields, can now coincide with one another with the help of digital tools. Every design is built upon information from the very beginning, meaning it can be realized instantaneously. The artistic genre of »projection mapping« enables architects to look at their field from new perspectives: existing building structures can be unraveled and reinterpreted using virtual architecture. By juxtaposing architectural principles of design with media art, it enables new artistic forms to be created, which visitors to the Schlosslichtspiele can experience from August 3, 2017.

The works are simultaneously referencing the ZKM project entitled »Open Codes. Leben in digitalen Welten« (Open Codes: life in digital worlds), which can be seen at ZKM from October 2017.
