Description

It is precisely the difference between those one idolizes and one’s own existence that formed a constitutive element in the Romantic veneration of heroes. By contrast, the media society oriented on capitalism suggests that there is no difference – anyone, without exception, can become a star. An uninterrupted flow of stars is generated by market interests, which ensures the enduring attention of a broad public. The fundamental relevance of celebrity culture exists in the treatment with people’s dignity or loss of dignity. The medial range of products of the celebrity culture is offered on the marketplace where the guarantee of human dignity is negotiable.
