Description

With the discovery of photography, the portrait gained access into middle-class society. As can be observed since the 1950s, the shifting interests among other classes of the population for the achievements and failures of those portrayed went hand in hand with the emergence of the Paparazzi. The presence of one person in the media has become a decisive factor of fame. Virtually mummified through the glossy prints of magazines, the generation of the »media aristocracy« achieved immortality. The masses exert their power in their function as a public, since the fame of a celebrity can only be effective by the existence of a public.
